Casey's Safe Haven could not exist without our fantastic Volunteers. Please consider becoming a volunteer and join our family of dedicated people who work hard, nurture, give their precious time all in the name of respect and love for our Equines.
We have several levels of Memberships, and even a Corporate Membership. Please consider joining our family so that Casey's Safe Haven can continue to feed, care and nurture our "Equine" guests.
We have three types of Monthly Sponsors:

We learned something from out last Open House—many of you are geeks! Techno geeks, science geeks, medical science geeks, and yes, even hoof science geeks. No negative connotation attached; in fact, we’re geeks, too. We discovered just how many of you were geeks when following the last Open House, many of you flooded us with calls and emails following your attendance at the presentation which covered Cece’s medical and hoof care. You wanted more; we just didn’t know how to get you more of Cece’s story.
And when it comes to Cece’s groundbreaking hoof care and management these last two years, how can you not be a geek and marvel at the technology, science, and medical science principles which were applied to literally save Cece’s life after a deformed and clubbed hoof left her unable to stand, unable to walk, and riddled with internal and external infection which could not be beat down. Veterinarians, top hoof science professors, and in fact the world’s leading expert on deformed hooves, all stated that Cece had weeks, if not days, left.
Cece—as she has her entire life—brought her fight to this battle and hence, so did we. During the course of the last year and a half, she endured having entire sections of her hoof surgically removed to expose the hidden infection, limb perfusions where catheter fed antibiotics were forced into her leg and hoof, shoes, boots, wraps, wraps, and more wraps, meds, shoes, boots, wraps, wraps, and more wraps. And she took all of this like a true fighter and trooper and yes, may have thrown a bite, nip, or kick into the mix just to remind us that yes, she was still there and present.
And now, we have a milestone to celebrate. We have defied logic, we have accomplished something that every single expert said could, would never happen. We’re not going to tell you what but a hint: Cece is naked. And yes, she is blushing. We are going to hold a raffle, the winner will get to sit in on a medical session for Cece. And for all of you geeks, you can ask all the technical, medical, and hoof science questions that you have burning to ask, and did not get the chance.
And one other thing, Cece let us in on a little secret. Apparently, Mitch leaves her each session and goes and cheats on her with another horse—a certain, all black, bad attitude, huge chip on his shoulder—horse. So, the raffle winner, if they play their cards right, may just get to see some of that, as an added bonus.
A little background on Cece's coming to Casey's:
We received a call back in 2015 from a dog rescue in southern Illinois. They were rescuing dogs from a hoarding situation and one of their staff went behind the garage and saw this paint pony tied up. We were told she was clearly in distress and her physical health was concerning to them. The dog rescue reached out to local equine rescues and because she had what was thought to be a malformed hoof, they were told she should be put down.
The local farrier they contacted said the same thing.
They then contacted Casey’s! And, yes, of course, we took her in.
Buy your raffle tickets below for a chance to be the winner for private sit-in with Cece and training session with Mitch and Prince! The Winner will be announced March 31st!
Equine monthly sponsors are one of the most important lifelines for our rescued equines. Some of our special needs equines may live out the rest of their days in the sanctuary part of Casey’s. Being a monthly equine sponsor helps pay for the supplements, medicine, farrier, and veterinary bills for these special needs equines.
Equine Sponsorships are fully tax deductible and can be cancelled at any time.
We have three types of Equine Sponsorships. Although the monthly sponsors pay for all or some of their care, unless they are part of Casey’s Sanctuary, they are still up for adoption to the right home.
Full Equine Sponsor of a Casey’s Rescue. We have people that have fallen in love with a particular rescue and have taken on the responsibility of their monthly care. A pony or donkey costs approximately $250-300 a month and a horse is around $450 a month, less supplements and emergency care.
“Ponyland Sanctuary” Sponsors and “General Care” Sponsors Since opening our doors in 2012, we have never turned down a pony from a pony ride facility. They usually come to us in their thirties and have spent their adult life going around in a circle carrying children, sometimes too heavy for their little bodies. Because they many times come to us in such poor dire health and have not received any attention on their teeth or feet, we take on not just their general care, but the ongoing expense of supplements, medicine, veterinary, and farrier bills. We understand that they may live out their lives with us in Casey’s Sanctuary. On one hand, we are so thrilled that we can give them a “golden” retirement, but this comes at a monetary cost to Casey’s who depends on supporters, sponsors and fundraisers to help pay for our expenses. We have monthly sponsors of all denominations in these two categories. The average sponsorship is $25 - $50 a month.
Prince Training and Rehabilitation Sponsorship We have people that have fallen in love with Prince and his horrific life story. Mitch Bornstein, author of Last Chance Mustang, and renowed trainer of dangerous or difficult horses, came to Casey's rescue and is training Prince.
Sponsors can choose either Ponyland Sanctuary or General Care Sponsorships, Prince's training and all Equine Sponsorships are acknowledged on our website and social media. See our Sanctuary Ponies below - one might pull at your heartstrings to do a monthly sponsorship.
To set up your Equine Sponsorship, use the Donation Button on the Home Page, just check the monthly box for your donation to continue monthly.
Remember, any denomination helps and you can cancel at any time.
